IMPORT REGULATIONS
Pets
- Travellers should ensure that they have a valid health certificate for their pet from a licensed veterinary official.
- The certificate is acceptable only from a doctor in the traveller's country of origin.
- The certificate is valid for two weeks from the start of the issue date.
- Travellers should take note that having the certificate does not exempt the pest examination from the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture upon arrival. The examination complies with Egyptian customs regulations and ensures the health condition of your pet.
- The pet must be vaccinated against rabies no sooner than 30 days prior to entry into Egypt.
- Egyptian regulation prohibits the importation of birds.
- This does not apply to live chicks, but they should meet the specific health requirements and Egyptian rules and regulations.
Free to Import
Tobacco
One of the following:
- 200 grams of cigarettes;
- 25 cigars; or
- 200 grams of tobacco.
Alcohol
Currency
- Funds of US$10,000 (or its foreign equivalent) or more must be declared to the customs authorities.
- A maximum of E£5000 may be brought into Egypt.
Other Goods
- Personal goods, including jewellery, electronics, sports equipment, and
musical instruments.
- New goods up to a value of E£1500.
- Medicines for personal use accompanied by a doctor's prescription.
- 100ml of cosmetic items (gels, perfume, shampoo).
Prohibited
The following are goods which cannot be brought into the country.
- Illegal drugs.
- Weapons, explosives, ammunition, firearms etc.
- Drones.
- Antiques and ivory items.
- Counterfeit goods.
- Articles, magazines and videos with offensive or erotic content.
- Sharp objects.
- Any tool that could be used as a weapon (such as a saw or a nail gun etc.).
- Toxic substances and chemicals.
- Sea shells and coral reefs.
- Any unusual electronic devices.
- Pyrotechnic items.
- Cotton.
- Life, stuffed or frozen birds.
- Any type of flammable substances (diesel, petrol for example).
Restricted
These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained
prior to arrival.
- Endangered animals, plants, and their derivative products protected
under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)
may require protected species permits. For further information, please

- Cultural art and artifacts.
- Electronic devices are restricted to 15 devices (and must be packed separately).
- Lithium batteries up to 100-160 Wh are allowed.
EXPORT REGULATIONS
Free to Export
- Funds of US$10,000 (or its foreign equivalent) or more must be declared to the customs authorities.
Prohibited
The following are goods which cannot be taken out of the country.
- Egyptian raw leather goods.
- All items on prohibited to import list.
Restricted
These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained
prior to departure.
- A maximum of E£5000 may be taken out of Egypt.
