PETS
- A health certificate from an authorized veterinarian, satisfying that the animal is free from infections or contagious diseases is required in order to import pets.
- The import of dogs and dangerous animals are strictly prohibited.
IMPORT REGULATIONS
Free to Import
Tobacco
All of the following:
- 200 cigarettes;
- 25 cigars; and
- 250g tobacco.
Please note: all tobacco products must carry a health warning label as
prescribed by the Ministry of
Health.
Currency
- Travellers may bring in any amount under US$10,000. However, any
sum of US$10,000 or over must be declared to Customs. Currency declarations can be submitted on the Customs website.
Other goods
- Medicines for personal use should be accompanied by a valid medical
prescription.
- Goods for personal use, such as clothes, jewellery, and toiletries.
- Goods not exceeding MVR 10,000 or equivalent (based on the Free On Board/FOB price, which is the price of goods at the frontier of the exporting country or price of a service provided to a non-resident.value).
Prohibited
The following are goods which cannot be brought into the country.
- Vapes, E-cigarettes and related products & devices.
- Narcotics and psychotropic substances.
- Pornographic material (including sex toys).
- Religious materials offensive to Islam.
- Live pigs.
- Idols for worship.
- Telecommunication equipment should be inspected and approved by the
Communications Authority of
the Maldives.
Restricted
These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained
prior to arrival.
EXPORT REGULATIONS
Prohibited
The following are goods which cannot be taken out of the country unless the passenger possesses a valid permit or license.
- Bait fish, such as big eyed scad.
- All coral, with the exception of organ pipe coral.
- Pearl oysters and giant clams.
- Conch and trochus shells.
- Dolphins, whales, puffer fish, sharks, turtles, eels, Napoleon wrasses,
rays, skates, and lobsters and their meat.
- Turtles.
