IMPORT REGULATIONS
Free to Import
Tobacco (restricted to travellers 18 years and over)
One of the following:
- 200 cigarettes;
- 25 cigars; or
- 1 pound of tobacco.
Alcohol (restricted to travellers 18 years and over)
Currency
- Foreign Currency exceeding US$10,000 or its equivalent must be declared.
- Up to NT$100,000 may be brought into Taiwan. Anything exceeding this
amount requires a permit from the
Central Bank of
the Republic of China (Taiwan) in advance.
- Up to RMB20,000 may be brought into Taiwan. Anything exceeding this amount
must be declared, and will be placed in bond for subsequent return abroad.
- Gold up to the value of US$20,000.
Other Goods
- Goods for personal use up to a value of NT$10,000 per piece.
- Other articles for personal use, apart from those above, their total value not exceeding NT$20,000 per passenger.
- Samples carried by a passenger with a total value of NT$12,000.
Prohibited
The following are goods which cannot be brought into the country.
- Illegal drugs, such as heroin, morphine, opium, cocaine, cannabis, and
amphetamines.
- Firearms, ammunition, bombs and explosives, assault knives, and other
weapons of war.
- Pirated and counterfeit goods and currency.
Restricted
These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained prior to arrival.
- The import of wild animals requires a permit issued by the
Council of Agriculture,
Executive Yuan. Endangered animals, plants, and their derivative products
protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
(CITES) may require protected species permits.
- The import of pets is subject to certain restrictions. For further

- Fruits and plants must be imported in accordance with the Plant
Protection and Quarantine Act.
- Up to 6kg of agricultural produce may be imported.
- Unaccompanied baggage must arrive within 6 months of the
passenger, and the passenger must have declared the contents of the
baggage on their entry.
EXPORT REGULATIONS
Free to Export
- Passengers may export goods up to the value of US$20,000, unless the
articles are restricted.
Prohibited
The following are goods which cannot be taken out of the country.
- Pirated or counterfeit goods and currency.
- Genuine Chinese antiques, ancient coins, and paintings.
- Firearms, ammunition, bombs and explosives, assault knives, and other
weapons of war.
- Illegal drugs, such as heroin, morphine, opium, cocaine, cannabis, and
amphetamines.
Restricted
These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained prior to departure.
- The export of wild animals requires a permit issued by the
Council of Agriculture,
Executive Yuan. Endangered animals, plants, and their derivative products
protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
(CITES) may require protected species permits.
- Local currency over NT$100,000, foreign currencies over US$10,000 or its
equivalent, or Chinese currency over RMB20,000 must be declared.
- Commercial samples or dutiable items such as personal computers,
professional equipment for photography and cameras intended for return to
Taiwan must be declared.
