GCC Smart Cards
- Smart Cards are issued by the Bahraini Government to nationals of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
- The card authorises nationals of GCC countries to travel to Bahrain using the smart card in lieu of a national passport.
- Cards contain a microchip which holds all the holder’s details (similar to passport microchip), such as the holders name, personal number, photograph of holder and expiry date. In the case of no expiry date, cards are valid for 5 years from the issue date on the card.
- Members of the GCC are currently Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.
- In the future all GCC countries are looking to introduce the smart card for travel between all GCC countries.
